I’ve had this domain name for a while, ever since inspiration struck in the shower. (I guess it’s better to be struck by inspiration rather than by the shampoo bottle or worse, by the shower head. I need to get around to fixing that shower head …)

After exhaustive thought, I realised that what the world needs is another blog about making a living online. I even had that confirmed by one of my favorite bloggers, Lynn Terry at ClickNewz, during a webinar she hosted recently. She assured me that there’s always room for another blog, so long as the content is compelling … now, there’s a challenge I can get my teeth into. So, here’s the obligatory introductory post to set the scene.

Tuppy Glossop is a pseudonym I’ve used for much of my online marketing work. I still have a day job and I’d prefer to keep my real name out of the picture while I build up enough income to let me quit my job. Perhaps then I can have a big virtual coming-out party to announce the real identity of the man behind the curtain.

My day job involves managing several large pay-per-click campaigns for a range of clients, so I have extensive experience with AdWords and other PPC engines. I’ve tried a few experiments using PPC for affiliate campaigns but have had very little success with it. Whether I was linking direct-to-merchant or building landing pages, I seem not to have hit the correct formula yet.

The one exception to that, for a few glorious months at the beginning of 2007, was AdSense arbitrage (buying cheap long-tail traffic in a high-paying niche and driving it to a very highly optimized page to earn higher revenue per click.) By chance I stumbled over an absolutely golden niche, and did very well for about four or five months until Google called a halt to the concept. Sad, but it was obviously time to move on.

So, for the past few months I’ve been back at the drawing board. I have a few niche sites which get their revenue from AdSense. They’re all pretty high-quality, with a mix of original content, rewritten PLR and articles from directories. I need to spend some time building them out further, and developing new ones. Most of the niches I’m in at the moment don’t easily lend themselves to affiliate sales, and I’d like to branch out there. I’d also like to return to the niche that worked so well for arbitrage and see if I can do something of more lasting value with it.

I’m planning to write a little more about my background in the next few days and then start discussing some of the work I’ve planned for the future. I see this blog as a place to journal some of the successes and failures I have as I move towards my ultimate goal of working solely for myself.

Do leave a comment or question and I’ll be quick to respond … talking to myself can be fun, but a conversation is even better.
